O'Neal Wins First Place in Local Art Show

My last two posts have featured photos of Pinehurst and Southern Pines, NC, deemed two of the best small towns to live, in North Carolina. I really, really like small town life.

Less traffic, stops to sit a spell and watch the world go by, great community living, and plenty to see, places to shop, and small eateries everywhere! Today, I have a few more photos of some lamp posts in Southern Pines, you know how I like quirky lamp posts, and then we are heading back to finish off our walk through the acre Sandhills Horticultural Gardens. I have so enjoyed that walk!

And now to the more formal gardens. We are heading back to the forested trail that takes us through many specialized gardens that are open daily to the public and maintained by the Landscape and Design School, which is also here.

What a paradise this labor of love is…….. To the gardens of big banana leaves……. OH MY! What a wonderful walk we had! Well I hope you have enjoyed our Monday Walk as much as I did! So relaxing! Check out what others are doing on their Monday walks with Jo! Till next week…………….. Like Like. Thanks a lot! Like Liked by 1 person. You are commenting using your WordPress. Ruth Pauley Lecture Series with Patrick Dougherty

The Lauder Sandhills, several miles west of Hartney , were created between 10, and 8, years ago. When the glaciers from the last ice age receded to the north, they left huge lakes in their wake. Glacial Lake Hind covered the area around present-day Hartney. Over the site of the Lauder Sandhills a delta formed where a river ran into the still body of Lake Hind. Sand deposits built up over this spot and remained after the glacial lakes had drained from the landscape.

It makes us think of it in a different light and gives us the opportunity to look at it and enjoy it.

About Sandhill House – Bed and Breakfast Cornwall

Different flowers, different leaves, varied fragrances, blooming at different times, some related, some not, with various habits, from a variety of habitats ranging all over eastern North America. Of course, such species were brought together from populations scattered across the region, but they may all be able to grow in your own back yard. Rhododendron viscosum is one of the many beautiful, unusual plants to be found in the Sandhills. The rare white wicky Kalmia cuneata in spring bloom. The brilliant red fruit of Aronia arbutifolia. Toxicodendron vernix has beautiful -- but itchy -- fall foliage. Gentiana autumnalis in late October peak bloom.

Dear Roger: I have two rose of Sharon bushes that have always bloomed profusely. This year, one didn't. The buds fell off. The other one bloomed well.
